Graduation

April, 1987.
Manila, Philippines

We made it. After four years of schooling, we made it to that day. Earlier that week, we received our diploma. That night was party night. We all gathered at the ballroom and celebrate. Instead of our white uniform or scrubs, we were in our best outfit, really to save the world.

As the class president, I delivered a short speech. I do not remember the whole speech; this is what I remember:

“IF YOU GIVE A PERSON A FISH, HE EATS FOR ONE DAY.
IF YOU TEACH A PERSON HOW TO FISH. HE EATS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

Class 87, we were taught how to fish. Now let’s go and save the world!”

The class cheered and we head confidently into our future.
